The updated 2013 Audi RS 5, an Audi A5-based performance coupe, starts at $69,795, including an $895 destination charge, said Audi in its release of 2013 model year pricing.

The 2013 Audi RS 5 is more expensive than two of its chief competitors, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and the 2012 BMW M3 Coupe. The 2013 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG starts at $64,935, including a $905 destination charge and a $1,700 gas-guzzler tax. The 2012 BMW M3 Coupe starts at $62,295, including an $895 destination charge and a $1,300 gas-guzzler tax. Audi's USA configurator does not show a gas-guzzler charge on the RS 5.

The RS 5 gets a high-tech all-wheel-drive system that features a crown-gear center differential, which Audi says can widely vary the distribution of torque between the front and rear axles. "If necessary, up to 70 percent can flow to the front or as much as 85 percent toward the tail end," said Audi in a statement.

The RS 5 is equipped with a 4.2-liter V8 engine that delivers 450 horsepower. The engine is linked to a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. The car has a top speed of 174 mph. The EPA says the 2013 Audi RS 5 returns 16 mpg in city driving and 23 mpg on the highway.

Audi also announced that the 2013 Audi Allroad 2.0T quattro starts at $40,495, including an $895 destination charge.

The company said the 2013 Audi S8 4.0T quattro will start at $110,895, including shipping, when it debuts here in the fall.

The 2013 Audi S6 4.0T quattro will start at $72,795, including shipping, when it arrives in showrooms in the fall.

The 2013 Audi S7 4.0T quattro will start at $79,695, including shipping, when it arrives in showrooms in the fall.

Pricing was not announced on the 2013 Audi Q5 hybrid quattro, which is also due out in the fall.
