A Glance at the all new 2014 Audi RS7.

The RS 7's most important distinction is its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that develops a sinister 560 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. Power transfers through an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Audi says the V8 lifts the RS 7 from zero to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds, while engine stop-start and cylinder deactivation should help the RS 7 return a combined 24 mpg.

An optional adaptive air suspension system lowers the RS 7 nearly an inch for times when drivers want more aggressive handling. A dynamic steering system that allows varying degrees of steering effort is also available.

A quick glance at the RS 7's more aggressive front end, complete with vast expanses of honeycomb grille and lower air inlets, assures that this is indeed the alpha model in the lineup. Twenty-inch wheels are standard, while 21-inch wheels and LED headlights are available for a further statement of style. Other standard and optional features include xenon headlights, tri-zone air-conditioning, a head-up display, a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system, and a host of driving and safety aids including parking assist, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and night vision display.

One of the RS 7's more obvious advantages is its rear hatchback configuration, which results in easier cargo loading than with similar coupe-styled sedans. There are 19 cubic feet of room behind the rear seats -- more than in the CLS or Porsche Panamera -- and cargo space maxes out at 49 cubic feet. These are handy numbers if you make frequent runs to the grocery or home goods stores, but not so much if you routinely drive four adult passengers. The RS 7's raked design pinches rear headroom, but does manage to retain abundant legroom.

Display At Audi Plant Shows Rate Of Car Production In Real Time

Audi has come up with a novel display at one of its plants in Germany, which the automaker likes to call a pulse-rate monitor for the plant.

The brand with the four rings has installed a giant digital panel at one its plants near its headquarters in the city of Ingolstadt, which shows, in real time, the vehicle  that has just been completed and what market it is heading to.

Onlookers will be able to check if Audi’s claims that a car is built every 30 seconds remains true by checking against the display. On average, around 2,500 models are built per day at this particular plant.

In the image above, you’ll notice that a Q5 has just been completed and is destined for the U.S.

Audi says it hopes the display will capture the fascination of both fans and passing travelers, but also create more transparency between the company and the general public.

The automaker also promises that the feature is part of a broader strategy for all its production locations, so if you happen to live near an Audi plant expect to see one of the displays popping up soon in your neck of the woods.

For readers in North America, that means you can expect to see one of these panels at the new Audi plant set to be constructed in San José Chiapa, Mexico in the coming years. The new plant will be operational in 2016 and will initially produce Q5 crossovers.

550-HP 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus Runs and Sings Through the Forest

We have lots to look forward to once the 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus arrives in the U.S. We already know it’ll be fast, but until we can hear the V-10’s glorious engine note on the street,you can listen to it over and over again in the video below.

The short clip features a red R8 V10 Plus showing off its revised and sexy sheetmetal along with its sweet-sounding V-10 that puts out 550 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. The video also points out a few key features of the range-topping R8, like its all-LED headlights, lightweight chassis, and trick sequential rear turn signals. Most importantly, the video mentions the R8’s new gearbox, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic that we recently sampled and fount to be “one brilliantly versatile box, silky when you want it, but ever ready to blip the throttle, hook up four fat tires, and fly through gears like a Vegas sharpie flipping aces.”

The R8 V10 Plus replaces the R8 V10 GT, which produced 560 hp (though current rumors state that the GT will return in a year or so). The updated R8 will still be offered with a V-8 engine (430 hp and 317 lb-ft) and the “normal” V-10, which produces 525 hp and 391 lb-ft. The R8 arrives in showrooms next month, so until then enjoy the video below.

Audi Announces Pricing for 2014 A8 L TDI

 

As expected, Audi will continue to expand its U.S. diesel line, led by the clean-diesel variant of the automaker's flagship luxury full-size sedan, the 2014 A8 L TDI. Pricing for the A8 L TDI, Audi recently announced, will start at $82,500, excluding a destination charge.

The 2014 A8 L TDI has a new 3.0-liter clean-diesel engine paired with Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system. According to Audi, the sedan will boast the best fuel economy in its segment: an EPA-estimated 24/36 mpg city/highway. The 3.0-liter puts out 240 horsepower and 406 pounds-feet of torque, and Audi says it's good for a zero-to-60-mph time of 6.4 seconds.

When the A8 L TDI goes on sale in early spring, the available Premium Package will include blind spot monitoring, 22-way multicontour comfort seats, front-seat ventilation with massage and full LED headlights. The expanded model lineup will include the A8 3.0T, 4.0T and W12, as well as the S8 4.0T; the A8 L TDI will be available only in the long-wheelbase version.

The A8 L TDI is among four new TDI models that debuted at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, including the A7 large hatchback, A6 midsize sedan and Q5 compact crossover. They join the TDI models already on sale, including the A3 compact hatchback and Q7 midsize crossover. Audi has previously stated that its TDI engines have already saved 4 million gallons of gasoline &mdas; the equivalent of nearly a quarter million barrels of foreign oil — since their introduction to the U.S. in 2009.
